MEYERTON.- Meyerton Police have launched a manhunt following a spate of three separate home invasions on September 8 that have left residents shaken.

In the first incident on Michael Street in Rothdene, a 73-year-old woman was in her bedroom when three unknown men confronted her and demanded money. The intruders moved her to another room while they ransacked the property, stealing a TV, a cellphone, a handbag containing bank cards, and a bag with keys inside, with a total estimated value of R40 000.

Police spokesperson Constable Nompumelelo Zazini confirmed that while the victim was verbally threatened, she did not sustain any physical injuries before the suspects fled on foot.

A second raid took place on Hoffman Street, where a 77-year-old woman was in her kitchen when a man she knew, joined by an accomplice, gained entry by claiming a relative had sent them to fix her shower.

“In the process, one of the suspects took a knife from the kitchen and threatened the complainant, demanding money. Both the men ransacked the house, seizing cash and alcohol,” said Zazini.

The suspects stabbed a dog inside the property, which subsequently died from its injuries.
The third invasion occurred on Boeschoten Street after a resident went outside to investigate a vehicle hooter.

A man stepped out of a white car to ask for directions and requested a glass of water, which the homeowner provided before the vehicle drove off.

Shortly afterwards, while the resident was back in the kitchen, two unknown men suddenly appeared and demanded jewellery. The suspects tied the victim’s hands and feet while he lay face down and ransacked the house.

The victim managed to untie himself and ran to a neighbour for help to contact his parents and the police. Stolen property from this address included a laptop, a cellphone, and a blood pressure monitor valued at R15 000.

Police are urging the community to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to safeguard their homes. Three separate house robbery case dockets have been opened, and investigations are currently ongoing.
