SEDIBENG.- The Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) has heaped praise on Peter Kele, Assistant Manager for Crime Prevention in the Community Safety Department, for his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to local safety.

Kele received a Sedibeng District Excellence Award for four consecutive years:

* 2022/2023 – Best District Commissioner Special Award

* 2023/2024 – Best Social Crime Prevention Stakeholder

* 2024/2025 – Best Shanela Operation Stakeholder

* 2025/2026 – Best District Commissioner Special Award

Beyond local municipal honours, Kele’s efforts have been widely applauded by the SAPS through district commissioner accolades and the Most Involved Stakeholder of the Year title, alongside VUT Community Engagement Awards in 2023 and 2024.

He also chairs the Sedibeng Community Safety Forum, lauded as a top-performing Intergovernmental Relations structure within the province’s JCPS Cluster.

Kele’s extensive portfolio covers gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) response, school safety campaigns like the School Safety Cycle Tour, and human trafficking prevention initiatives. These efforts played a key role in helping the district secure a SALGA Award on August 22, 2024, for its Rapid Response Teams on the GBV Programme.

Most recently, Executive Mayor Lerato Maloka presented Kele with a special token of appreciation during a Council meeting to honour his ongoing service, adding to his recent recognition as a recipient of the 6th Annual Men of Valour Award Gauteng.

“The municipality commends Mr Kele for strengthening cooperation between the Municipality, SAPS, government departments and community stakeholders, and congratulates him on his continued contribution to safer communities,” the SDM said.
