Former Bafana Bafana captain survives Vanderbijlpark crash
The accident happened on Sunday as he was driving home from a family gathering, just a short distance from his residence.
VANDERBIJLPARK.- Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena narrowly escaped serious injury after his car crashed into a brick wall at Trevaga Court in Hertz Boulevard.
Clarifying the timeline of the incident, Mokoena told Sedibeng Ster Sport that the crash occurred on Sunday.
The accident happened on Sunday as he was driving home from a family gathering.
Mokoena explained that he had returned on Saturday after spending the week involved with SAFA development structures. He was attending the SAFA and FIFA Talent Development Scheme U15 Inter-Provincial Tournament at Marks Park, Johannesburg.

According to Mokoena, the accident happened on Sunday as he was driving home from a family gathering, just a short distance from his residence. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, although it is alleged that he lost control of the vehicle.
Mokoena remains the most capped player in the history of the South African men’s national team.
Following the crash, allegations surfaced suggesting that Mokoena was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Sedibeng Ster Sport holds video footage of the incident featuring a standby vehicle in the background, which has fuelled claims that he was drunk.
At the time of publication, Sedibeng Ster Sport was awaiting a response from Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, who was unavailable due to a meeting.
Mokoena remains the most capped player in the history of the South African men’s national team, making 107 appearances after his debut against Botswana in 1999.
He also holds the distinction of being the youngest player called up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations in Burkina Faso.
Mokoena’s football journey began on the dusty pitches of Boipatong, playing for the now-defunct Boipatong Real Rangers FC before earning his breakthrough with a move to the Ajax Amsterdam development academy.
