Petition success to have pit toilets in Evaton eradicated
EVATON.- The Democratic Alliance ( DA) believes that millions of rands spent on the Evaton Renewal Project should have been used to address the issue of pit toilets in the area.

Speaking after the acceptance of a petition on the issue by the Petitions Committee of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Kingsol Chabalala who is the DA Gauteng Constituency Head said that the committee agreed to view the sites of pit-toilets that exist in the community.
Chabalala said that following an oversight visit, the committee was shocked to see the conditions of the toilets and agreed to remedy the situation and take action in removing the pit toilets.
“Millions of rands were wasted on the Evaton Renewal Project which should have addressed the issue in the first place. Each household should have its own decent flushing toilet. The ANC-run municipality have for far too long taken the residents of Evaton for granted. The community of Evaton will finally be rid of inhumane pit toilets.”
The Evaton Renewal Project is a project of government that was aimed at “renewing” or regenerating Evaton. The priority areas of this project included: the development of infrastructure, such as the resurfacing of roads, building of houses and building of pavements; the development of the local economy through job creation and Small, Micro and Medium Enterprise (SMME) projects, like grass-cutting and the setting up of vegetable gardens. The project has since stalled.
Chabalala ends by saying that that the DA will monitor the implementation of flushing toilets in the Evaton community and keep the mayor accountable.
