Road Accident Fund laments sad loss of life in N1 crash

GAUTENG. - Road Accident Fund (RAF) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Eugene Watson, has sent his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the 16 people who reportedly died  when a bakkie and taxi collided on the N1 in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on Saturday night (7 January, 2017). There were only two survivors, one said to be in a critical condition, while the other sustained moderate injuries.

“Particularly tragic was the needless death of six children in the accident. That this has occurred on the eve of the 2017 school year is most devastating,” said Dr Watson.

“As the consoling arm of government, we will do everything to ensure we ease the emotional and financial burden for the survivors and families during this difficult time. Our  Pretoria regional office will work alongside the police and hospitals to verify the identities of the deceased in order to begin providing the necessary support.”
