Lengthy sentence for murderers welcomed
Warrant Officer Zithobile Ndaba has been congratulated for carrying out a meticulous investigation which resulted in a heavy sentence for two murderers.

VEREENIGING. – Sedibeng District Police Commissioner Major General Zodwa Molefe has congratulated Warrant Officer Zithobile Ndaba whose meticulous investigation led to a heavy sentence for two Vaal murderers.
34-year -old PatricTau and 29- year-old Kamohelo Mpangeva were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the gruesome murder of well know Vereeniging lawyer and businessman Eric Layel.
The case was heared at the high court sitting at the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court in Katlehong.
The two were further sentenced to 10 years for robbery, five years for defeating the ends of justice, three years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for possession of ammunition.
Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, “Layel was assaulted, put in the boot of his car and his body dumped in the Vaal River.”
Funda states that the suspects further seized a firearm from Layel’s home.
“On Saturday January 12th 2019, Layel’s body was discovered in the river and subsequently identified by his daughter.
“A case docket was opened and assigned to a dedicated Ndaba of Vereeniging detectives who made sure that he left no stone unturned.
“With the collaboration of private investigators and security companies, Tau and Mpangeva were traced and ultimately arrested Zastron, EasternCape.”
“The suspects were found in possession of a firearm belonging to the deceased. Clothing belonging to the suspects was found at a dumping site in Sharpeville with the blood of the deceased.”
Funda reports that Layel’s car was found abandoned at Barrage Road near Bedworth Park.
Molefe states that Ndaba carried out a well executed investigation which resulted in a heavy sentence for the two killers.
