SHARPEVILLE. – Two minor boys aged 12 and 15-years-old were arrested recently following the  assault and rape of an elderly woman (61). In a statement, Police Spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that the incident happened on Christmas Day.

“It is reported that the victim met the two boys who are known to her. The boys asked if they could go home with her because they could not find their parents and it was already dark. The victim agreed and took them to her place of residence. While at the woman’s place, it is alleged that the two boys assaulted the old woman and later raped her.”

Masondo stated that following the incident, the victim reported the matter at the Sharpeville police station.

“The boys were hunted down and arrested in Sharpeville on 26 December 2022. The suspects appeared before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court. and they were released to the care of their parents until their next court appearance,” Masondo concluded.
