Residents fume as garbage collection stalls again

Diesel may be in short supply — but so is the municipality’s accountability.

EMFULENI – Residents of Ward 16 are voicing their growing frustration as the municipality once again fails to deliver a waste collection schedule, citing ongoing diesel shortages.

Councillor Grace Damons has called out the local government for what she describes as “a growing pattern of operational dysfunction,” highlighting that last week’s uncollected refuse still remains on the streets.

“Our residents continue to pay their rates and taxes, yet the services they receive are unacceptable,” Damons said in a statement. “There is no transparency or accountability from the municipality on when this issue will be resolved.”

The councillor is urging municipal leaders to act urgently to resolve the fuel supply issue and communicate clear timelines to the public.

“The community is being let down. Waste collection must resume without further delay. Our residents deserve better,” she concluded.
