MEYERTON – Five buildings were damaged during a structural fire in the CBD on July 21.
Upon responding to the incident, the CERT Vaal crew found the building in flames, with Midvaal Fire & Rescue firefighters battling the blaze.

Working with ER24, the CERT crew established a medical staging area to provide medical support should any injuries occur, or any firefighters require medical assistance during the operation.
According to CERT, the fire was brought under control shortly after midnight. The exact cause of the fire is unknown.

CERT thanked the Midvaal Fire & Rescue team for their dedication, professionalism, and hard work throughout the incident, citing that they were truly commendable.

“These men and women are undoubtedly some of Meyerton’s finest. We would like to thank ER24, Fidelity Secure Fire, Midvaal Peace Officers, Meyerton SAPS, and all other personnel involved for their assistance, cooperation, and teamwork throughout the incident.”

CERT states that, in the event of a fire, people should evacuate the building immediately and move to a safe location.

“Do not re-enter the building for personal belongings, and never place yourself at risk by attempting to fight a fire that is spreading rapidly. Once safely outside, contact emergency services and provide responders with as much information as possible.”

The Meyerton SAPS has launched an investigation into the incident.
