Team effort secures Usher Cup for Warriors
Eight teams participated in the tournament, with the Warriors eventually facing off against Kapaailand, from the Eastern Cape towns of Maclear and Ugie in the final.
The South Coast Warriors Rugby Club successfully defended the Usher Cup in a nail biting encounter that saw them edge out Kapaailand Rugby Club 12-10 at the Kokstad Rugby Club last weekend.
The annual tournament hosted by the Southern KZN Rugby Union kicked off last Saturday as the club put on a well organised tournament which complemented an amazing two days of rugby.

Eight teams participated in the tournament, with the Warriors eventually facing off against Kapaailand, from the Eastern Cape towns of Maclear and Ugie in the final, that saw Warriors ace Sheldon Rivabella named as the backline player of the day.
“The boys put in a brilliant team effort to secure the win in the final and bring back the Usher Cup trophy. The team is really starting to gel and find its rhythm by playing some amazing rugby,” said Warriors coach Niko Potgieter.

In the Shield final, the Southern KZN Rugby Academy bowed out in a close encounter against the hosts, Kokstad going down 20-11, ending their tournament campaign in fourth place.
“You could see that players were hungry to play again. It was a huge improvement on the standard of rugby by all the teams. Good hard Platteland rugby,” said SKZN Sub-Union president Doug Haralambous.
