Entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners were given practical tools, expert guidance and direct access to government support programmes at the Business, Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Capacity Building Workshop at the Umzinto Town Hall recently.

This workshop was hosted by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) as part of the Milestones of Freedom Programme.

It brought together entrepreneurs, cooperative members, youth, community stakeholders and government institutions to strengthen business knowledge, promote economic participation and empower local enterprises with practical information and support.

Participants received valuable information on a range of topics. These included combating misinformation and disinformation, consumer financial management, SMME and cooperative support programmes, business compliance requirements, and strategies for professionalising businesses to improve sustainability and growth.

The workshop provided a platform for engagement between government, financial institutions and development agencies, ensuring that local businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs have access to resources and opportunities that can contribute to economic development and job creation within the municipality.

Stakeholders that participated in the programme included Nedbank; the Independent Electoral Commission; the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs; South Coast Tourism, the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs through community development workers, Umdoni Municipality as well as various non-governmental organisations.

Khanyiso Seyisi, assistant director, regional communication coordinator for GCIS said that the department remains committed to empowering communities through access to information and creating platforms such as this one that support entrepreneurship, economic inclusion and sustainable development.
