New challenge for mountain bike riders

MOUNTAIN biking enthusiasts have another exciting event to add to their spring race calendar. The Wild Coast Sun has introduced The Wild Coast Sun Mountain Bike Challenge, taking place on Sunday, October 31.

With over R23 000 in prize money to be won, three routes for varying fitness levels, and loads of activities to enjoy after the ride, The Wild Coast Sun Mountain Bike Challenge is for everyone – from the competitive and adventurous, to families keen to enjoy some fresh outdoor activity together.

The event, which starts and ends at the Wild Coast Sun, takes racers on an adventurous and scenic journey through lush landscapes, private beaches and dirt roads.

There are three routes of varying distances and level of difficulty to choose from; 40km, 20km and a 10km fun ride for beginners and children.

Sandi Burger, PR and promotions manager at the Wild Coast Sun, says: “The Wild Coast Sun Mountain Bike Challenge is an exciting addition to the South Coast sporting calendar. The Eastern Cape region, with its great scenery, diverse landscape and quiet dirt roads, is fast becoming a favourite destination for mountain bike enthusiasts. We encourage race participants to make a weekend of it and spend some time enjoying the wonderful activities that the Wild Coast Sun has to offer.”

According to Ms Burger, all race participants receive free entry to the Wild Coast Sun, and 50 percent off their entrance into the Wild Waves Water Park for the day.

Entries for The Wild Coast Sun Mountain Bike Challenge are open. To register online, go to www.roag.co.za. Pre-entries are R120 for the 40km, R80 for the 20km and R20 for the 10km. The first 200 entries receive a goodie bag including a bike ‘buff’ and water bottle. Riders can also register on the day from 6.30am to 7.30am.
