Alfresco launch for arts foundation

IT is picnic time for ballet fans and anyone else who would like to help two local dancers reach for the stars.

The New Beginnings Foundation is being launched at an innovative fund-raising event, a ‘Farm to Fork Feast’.

This alfresco dinner will feature locally sourced cuisine paired with lovely surroundings, a convivial atmosphere and live entertainment, at River Valley Nature Reserve on April 9, from 4pm until late.

Tickets are R200 per person. To book, contact Deanne Purtell at deanne.purtell@vodamail.co.za.

There is a very touching background to the new foundation. It is being formed in memory of the late Chloe Thomas, a much loved ballet teacher who lost her brave fight against cancer recently. The foundation’s mission is to assist talented young dancers and artistes to reach their dreams.

Money raised from the alfresco dinner, the foundation’s first big fund-raiser, will be used to pay for summer school for two wonderfully talented young South Coast ballet dancers, Ella Drummond and Hannah Scott.

The foundation will host four events this year. As well as the alfresco feast they will hold another similar event, an interschools’ dance challenge and a corporate challenge.
