Durban Men’s Choir performs at Azalea Hall

Durban Men's Choir will perform at Azalea Hall on October 8 at 2.30pm

MARGATE Retirement Village residents’ activities committee has lined up a special treat for choral music fans, a visit from the much-applauded Durban Men’s Choir next month.

The choir will perform at Azalea Hall on Sunday, October 8, at 2pm for 2.30pm. Seating will be theatre style and bar facilities will be available. Tickets are R50 per person and are available from the village’s RAC and admin offices.

The choir, a non-profit organisation, has been delighting audiences since 1971 when it was formed. It consists of about 40 members from all walks of life and is led by Norraine Swanby, the musical director. The musicians, all talented amateurs who are passionate about singing, perform about 20 to 25 concerts a year. Their regular Azalea Hall performances are much applauded and are firm favourites on the South Coast’s cultural calendar.

Performances include songs from many different genres, including classical, opera, traditional songs and songs from shows like ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Showboat’, ‘Les Miserables’ and many more. The singers also offer popular music and any other music their audiences will enjoy. With their wide repertoire they are able to tailor each programme to suit the audience and occasion.
