Hot happenings at The Rock
THERE are some exciting musical happenings at Umzumbe’s ‘The Rock Music Bistro’ this weekend, starting with another performance by Gavin Ferguson on Friday, January 22, at 7pm.
This evening will be hosted by David Marks. Gavin plays a lovely range of music, including both originals and covers, and he has a stunning voice. Come and support this amazing musician.
This week will also see the start of the new Friday sundowners open mic 1950’s and 1960’s folk, rock and jazz sessions. If you have a music video or book or even a story come along and share it with your fellow music lovers.
On Saturday, January 23, slap harmonic guitarist Phil Moffet will be back at The Rock. It is his second last rock gig as he is moving to Johannesburg so come and support him. Music starts at 7pm. Oscar Swanlund will host the Sunday pull in, plug in and play session,
Big news from The Rock, however, is that super-talented Dan Patlansky will kick-start his latest ‘Sweet Home Africa Acoustic Tour’ of South Africa with a debut performance at The Rock on Friday, January 29. Dan has been voted the third best guitarist in the world and it is a huge honour for the South Coast to host his performance.
Fans will get the chance to see the maestro play acoustic song versions from his albums ‘20 Stones’, produced in 2012, ‘Wooden Thoughts’ (2013) and
‘Dear Silence Thieves’ (2014). They will also be in for a special treat with Dan playing acoustic versions of brand new songs from his new album set for release in April this year and some classic covers, from the 1930s to the present, spiced up with a modern touch of blues and rock influences. Booking for all the gigs is essential. Book soon for Dan’s show to avoid disappointment as tickets will sell fast.
