KZN attractions go on show

IF you are planning to do some travelling, don’t miss the inaugural KZN Travel And Adventure Show, which will run alongside the East Coast Radio House and Garden Show this year.

It will take place at the Durban Exhibition Centre, from July 8 to 10, and it will be open to the general public. Indaba, which is staged annually in Durban, is Africa’s biggest tourism exhibition, but is only open to the tourism trade industry.

For the first time in the province, local people will be able to interact personally with representatives from more than 80 tourism destinations, resorts, operators and airlines. They will also offer significant discounts and show specials for novel travel and adventure activities.

Organisers of the show, which is hosted by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, are offering a ‘two shows for the price of one’ deal. A ticket to the House and Garden Show gives free entry into the KZN Travel and Adventure Show, and vice versa.

“With the influx of tourists to the province, enjoying our warm winter weather, we felt that July was the perfect time to provide a public platform for a wide range of travel options at affordable rates,” said Tourism KwaZulu-Natal chief executive Ndabo Khoza,

The show would enabled his organisation to promote travel within the province. It would also enable the people of KwaZulu-Natal to explore and discover new tourism products that they could visit on their next holiday. KwaZulu-Natal was the second biggest source market for domestic tourism in South Africa. The people of this province already accounted for 90 percent of its tourism market share and the show would give them an opportunity to discover other destinations, he said.

While Durban remained one of the province’s most popular destinations, the show would uncover some of its hidden gems, ranging from the magnificent Drakensberg to the adventure-filled South Coast and rich historical sites like the Mandela Capture Site and Inanda Heritage Routes.

“We will also promote some of our township routes such as INK, Claremont and Umlazi and visitors will be able to book tours right there at the Show,” he said.

The show will offer different promotions and activities, including guest appearances by the Sharks rugby team, every day. There will be a ‘Wild Adventures Jungle Playground’ for children. Dancers and a poet will be at the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture stand. Exhibitors will run show specials and will offer significant discounts on accommodation, flights and travel. Prizes include holidays to Bangkok and Dubai as well as local resorts.

The show is supported by a wide and diverse range of holiday destinations, accommodation establishments and other members of the tourism industry.
