New Durban talent on Umzumbe stage

 

THE first thing you notice about Durban singer songwriter Chico Muya is his smile. This up and coming musician, who will be at ‘The Rock Music Bistro’ this Saturday, June 11, will play after the rugby, which patrons can watch on the big screen at this venue. Entry fee, which goes to the musicians, is R30.

Chico has a warm, laid-back personality that shines through his music. His sounds are an acoustic mix of pop and folk that make you dance and sing. Following the release last year of his single, ‘Two Roads’, which performed well on East Coast Radio, Chico is currently recording his first EP.

Recently, he teamed up with Spencer-Rae Kerr and the resulting double act has created a stir in Durban, most notably when the two singers opened for the Parlotones at the Durban Botanical Gardens.

Chico has performed at Splashy Fen, Smoking Dragon and White Mountain and has been booked for festivals like Zakifo and Afriski Winter Fest (in Lesotho). He has shared the stage with some of South Africa’s best well known bands including Jeremy Loops, Gangs of Ballet, Monark, and the Parlotones.

A bright young talent, he has an electric personality to match his unique music style.

Resident musician John Skuy will be on stage on Friday, June 10, from 6pm and there will be another pull in, plug in and play session on Sunday afternoon,
