Popular pianist returns to Azalea Hall

MUSIC lovers across the spectrum will be pleased to know that a leading South African concert pianist, Christopher Duigan, will be on stage at Azalea Hall, Margate Retirement Village, on Saturday, February 25, from 6.30pm.

Seating for this musical treat will be concert style. Bar facilities will be available. Tickets are R65 and are on sale at the Margate Retirement Village RAC and admin offices.

Christopher, who has performed at various venues on the South Coast and who has many local fans, completed his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Brazilian virtuoso Arnaldo Cohen.

He was awarded the Professional Performer’s Diploma and won first prize in the college’s prestigious Recital Prize for Pianists.

Recent engagements include playing with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and at the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown.

As well as a Steinway Artist, he has been officially recognised as a ‘South African Piano Icon’ and a ‘National Musical Treasure’. Through his innovative presentation of a broad and eclectic selection of music, he has developed a popular following.

Based in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Christopher is committed to promoting concert performances, both his own and those of others, locally and further afield. As producer and impresario he is the director of the widely acclaimed Music Revival, which he established in 1997.

Major projects now include the concert series at the Hilton Arts Festival, the Franschhoek Classic Music Festival and a series of performances by the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.
