‘The Rock’ is open again

 

GOOD news is that Umzumbe’s iconic music venue, The Rock Music Bistro, is back in business and will open its doors to music lovers this Sunday, September 25, from noon.

This popular spot has been closed for many moons and its fabulous evening and afternoon music sessions have been greatly missed by local music fans. There was applause all round when the good news was announced.

As a special reopening treat, guest performers will include students from Esayidi Technical and Vocational Education and Training, who are being taught by renowned South Africa jazz musician, Andile Yenana. They are looking forward performing for local music lovers.

A regular and popular entertainer at The Rock, singer, songwriter and slap harmonic guitarist Phil Moffet, who hails from Ballito, will make a welcome return to the music bistro. Described as a true innovator of the guitar as an instrument, Phil uses both hands simultaneously to create a bass line, melody, harmonics and percussive and rhythmic embellishments on the guitar body.

He has explored many different styles of playing, including classical, blues, contemporary, folk and country. Veteran South African musician, songwriter, music archivist and sound engineer David Marks will host the musical afternoon and looks forward to welcoming regulars back to ‘The Rock’.
