Tuesday Rostrum to host Christmas in June lunch

Guest entertainer: Singer Chloe Clark will share the stage with saxophonist Jerry Kunene at the Tuesday Rostrum 'Christmas in June' lunch at Mbango on June 14 at noon.

Every year the ‘friendly, thinking women’s club’ takes a mid-year break from more weighty matters, to enjoy a little light-hearted entertainment at a winter celebration with a festive theme.

This year, two highly respected musicians, Chloe Ann Clark and Jerry Kunene, will be there to entertain guests.

Chloe, a Durban-based singer, pianist and songwriter, grew up in Mooi River and Weenen, She started singing at a young age, joining her first band when she was only 11 years, and was soon hooked on music and entertaining people.When she decided she wanted to pursue a career as a musician she enrolled at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she studied music full-time and graduated with a BA Music degree in 2013, following it up with honours in vocal technique and jazz vocals.

A dynamic presence on the Durban entertainment scene, Chloe has performed in all of the theatres in and around Durban. No stranger to the stage, she loves being part of the local show scene. She made the top 30 in Idols SA in 2014 and did the backing vocals for Ronan Keating at the Star Light Pop Orchestra last year.

Her fans say Chloe’s love and passion for jazz is very noticeable in her songwriting and in her latest single, ‘Hey Darling’, which saw her working alongside the talented Durban jazz pianist Burton Naidoo.

Saxophonist Jerry Kunene began his music career in the 1950s. In the early 1960s he formed a group ‘Jerry’s Sextet’ which eventually outgrew its sextet label and became ‘Jerry and His Men’.

He has played with many local and famous musicians and has travelled extensively all over the world with different groups. Artistes that he has collaborated with include Mbongeni Ngema, Brian Thusi, Dudley Dlamini, Jonathan Ngema, Theo Bophela, James Mbambo and Clarence Khumalo.
