Vintage rock from ‘Jack Hammer’ at Umzumbe venue
Umzumbe’s ‘The Rock Music Bistro’ will host a special show featuring Piet Botha and his band, ‘Jack Hammer’, on Tuesday, May 24, from 6pm.
One of the many songs recorded by this vintage rock band is the popular South African hit, ‘Master Jack’, penned a few decades ago by none other than local musician, sound engineer and music historian David Marks, who hosts the regular pull in, plug in and play Sunday afternoon sessions at ‘The Rock’.
Piet, who is often called the ‘godfather of South African rock’, has been at the helm of Jack Hammer, the country’s longest-standing rock band, for about 30 years.
The band recently released a new album, ‘Handful of Rain’, which was produced, mixed and mastered by SAMA-winner Peter Pearlson and was released online by VH Music and Publishing.
Piet describes the album as “a story book of songs, a collection of quiet reflections of a man looking back on his life as a touring musician”.
