Sports car drivers brave the cold
Sports and Specials enjoyed the scenic drive to Port Edward.
ALTHOUGH the rain kept away, an icy wind followed the Sports and Specials to Port Edward last Sunday.
For those in topless sports cars, it was a chilly drive, to say the least. However, everyone soon thawed out in the sunshine on the deck outside Beach Bobbies Restaurant. A warm welcome, lovely sea views, a delicious breakfast and gallons of hot coffee helped, too. The breakfasting car enthusiasts were even treated to a spectacular display by a passing pod of whales.
There was a good turnout, with quite a few newcomers taking part in the August car run. The route, from Shelly Beach to Port Edward, via the old main road, is a scenic one and was enjoyed by the sports car owners and their passengers.
Sports and Specials is an informal group of local car enthusiasts who meet for a breakfast run once a month. They also travel further afield now and then, usually attending annual events like Cars in the Park in Pietermaritzburg, the Scottburgh Classic Car Show and the Christmas open day at Baynesfield Estate, near Richmond.
Anyone with a sports car, old or new, or any interesting vehicle, is welcome to take part in the outings. For information, contact Bill at 084 4110044.
