SOUTH Coasters gathered in their numbers last Saturday in an effort to ‘gain ground for Lord Ganesha’.
The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir, together with a host of temples, observed Ganesha prayer with a colourful float procession through the Port Shepstone CBD and residential areas last Saturday. The colourful and vibrant procession set off from the Shoprite parking area and proceeded to the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.
Lord Ganesha is one of the most prominent deities in Hinduism. Ganesha has the unique distinction of his name always being invoked before any other God’s name in any prayer.
Thanks to a dedicated committee, lots of planning and hard work, the float procession was a huge success.
Veena Lakhan of the Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir said the feeling is that the South Coast is a ‘big step closer to unity’. “Temples produced very innovative floats and the day was thoroughly enjoyed,” she said.
The organisers thank all the temples and individuals who took part in the float as well as the municipality which assisted in controlling traffic.
