A TRUCK owner and his driver, accused of attempting to bribe a police official, will appear in the Scottburgh court today Friday, September 13.
They were released by a Scottburgh magistrate on bail of R3 000. According to the Daily News, Kwanele Ncalane, Department of Transport spokesman, said it was alleged that a scrap metal dealer had telephoned a Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officer for his banking details.
It’s alleged the man wanted to pay him a bribe.
The call was apparently made after his vehicle was caught travelling at 96km/h in an 80km/h zone. “An officer asked the truck owner to pay the ‘bribe’ at an RTI station. When the owner and the driver arrived, they were arrested,” Ncalane said.
