The bus in which the young girls were travelling crashed near Melmoth on the R66 highway last Sunday. The passengers were returning to Umzumbe from the annual Reed Dance ceremony at the Nyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma when the accident occurred.

The bus, belonging to Malundi Bus Lines, was carrying 64 people.

The driver is thought to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the steel armco barriers on the side of the road. Some of the passengers were thrown out of the bus.

Meanwhile the bus involved was released to the bus company yesterday (Wednesday).

According to spokesman Shikhar Singh, of Malundi Bus Lines, the Department of Transport had found no faults on the bus.

The funerals of the victims were held at Umzumbe last weekend.
