What a win for designer Murray

All the judges loved his design.

MURRAY Sharp from Port Shepstone has made a name for himself by coming second in the first Cobra Design Competition.

Murray was awarded R15 000 for his Aloe design in the professional/other category.

Ramielle de Jager, Cobra’s product manager, said the standard of entries exceeded expectations, with designers really taking the brief to heart.

“‘Aloe’ by Murray is just a ‘wow’ type of design. Its aesthetics are so appealing, everyone in the judging room loved this design and I believe many homeowners would love a tap like this in their homes,” said Mr de Jager.

Murray grew up in Port Shepstone. After school he studied industrial design at the University of Johannesburg. He qualified last year with a B Tech degree. Murray’s design process started with Nautica which was inspired by maritime and nautical products, specifically a ship’s anchor.

This inspiration, coupled with minimal design, resulted in the final design – Aloe which was created around a strong marketing potential of ‘green’, sustainable design.

“The name Aloe stems from the aloe plant which was the initial inspiration behind the form of this tap,” Murray said.

“The entire form is based around nature, specifically leaves. This has a direct connotation to eco-friendly, ‘green’ design, which adds value to any product in today’s world. This eco-friendly campaign would be substantiated by the water conservation technologies built into the tap,” he said.
