Teen survives near drowning
The young girl was swimming with friends when she was swept out to sea.

A TEENAGER from Umtata who was swept out to sea by a rip current was rescued just after midday last Saturday.
NSRI Port Edward duty controller Alan Stilwell said the Port Edward sea rescue station received a report of a young girl (18) being swept out to sea.”An NSRI rescue swimmer and an Ubunthu lifeguard swam out to the teenager, who was about 60 metres offshore, in the surf line, and brought her safely back to shore.”
Mr Stilwell added that once ashore, the teen was treated for near drowning symptoms. She declined further medical care.
NSRI reminds everyone about the full moon spring tide, which brings much stronger than normal rip currents. There are also rough, stormy sea conditions brought on by a series of cold fronts. Bathers, anglers, boaters and paddlers are urged to exercise extreme caution.
