Teen and child drown

The teenager was crossing a flooded bridge.

THE bodies of a teenage boy and a five-year-old boy were found in the aftermath of the heavy rains that struck the coast over the weekend.

It’s believed the Port Shepstone SAPS Search and Rescue team, together with dog Rhonda, found the body of the child in the Mfazazana River in Hibberdene on Monday this week, after he went missing the day before.

Police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said an inquest docket has been opened for investigation at Hibberdene SAPS. “Investigations are continuing,” he added.

A 19-year-old drowned after attempting to cross the Bhuqu river bridge at Bhomela, near Paddock last Sunday.

According to police reports the teen was crossing the flooded bridge at around 8am. Locals spotted the boy being swept into the river and contacted the Paddock police station.

Police divers attended the scene and recovered the teenager’s body at around 3pm. Paddock police are investigating.

Port Shepstone SAPS Search and Rescue also rescued two men from a river in the Upper Melville area.
