History repeats itself at Horton home

The family has waited for over a year for their claim payout.

IN February last year Michael Horton and his family, of Uvongo, awoke to a flooded house in the early hours of the morning.

Exactly a year later the family was faced with the same problem.

Mr Horton told the Herald that he thought it was the rain, but when he went to investigate, he realised his house was flooded again.

The mess the family was left to clean up.

“I called Ugu at 4am and it took them two hours to get to the scene,” he said, angrily.

He explained that last year the same pipe had burst and caused mayhem. “Our whole yard, including our house, was flooded, and there was a lot of damage,” he said.

He revealed that he and his wife had made a claim of R74 000 which Ugu had promised to pay. “It has been a year already and we have had no joy from the municipality,” he said.

He added that they had to use their own funds to fix last year’s damages. “We are now faced with another mess. The water has flooded our house, damaged our floor, our furniture is ruined.”

“The same pipe has burst three times, if Ugu would do a proper job we wouldn’t have such problems,” he said.

Ugu spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo said the municipality was aware of the burst pipe issues. “A superintendent working on this case is compiling the incident report and will be taking this matter to the municipality’s insurance company for processing,” he concluded.
