Grandmother charged in toddler shooting
The case was postponed to June 19.

THE grandmother whose firearm was used in the shooting of a two-year-old boy has been charged with failing to safeguard a firearm.
The 49-year-old woman appeared in the Umzumbe court (Turton) last Tuesday.
The case was postponed to June 19. The toddler was shot by his brother (6) in Mabhaleni location near Hibberdene on May 8.
The toddler died in a Durban hospital the following day.
It is believed that the two-year-old boy’s brother accidentally shot him with a handgun belonging to the grandmother while the two had been playing in her bedroom.
According to the grandmother, she arrived home, put her handbag (with the firearm inside) on the bed and went to the bathroom.
On her way out of the bathroom, she heard a shot and ran to the bedroom where she found the two boys. She saw the younger boy lying on the floor and the older one holding the firearm in his hands.
