Shop owner kills burglar
The shop owner defended himself by striking the intruder with a knobkierie.
TWO men who walked into a store in Braemar, near Port Edward, with the intention of robbing it, came off worst, when the owner allegedly killed one of the intruders.
The store may have looked like an easy target for the robbers at first, but the owner was not letting his store be robbed.
According to police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka, the owner of Nondabula store, who lives in the shop, heard noises last Saturday at about 3.30am.
“According to the shop owner, when he heard the noise he went to investigate. He then noticed two men inside the shop. One of them fled but the other remained and drew out a knife,” said Captain Mfeka.
The owner defended himself by striking the intruder with a knobkierie. The knife-wielding attacker fell to the floor. The shop owner called police and an ambulance. A paramedic declared the man dead at the scene.
Police investigations revealed that the dead man is Simbongile Shusha (28) from Port Edward. Police are searching for the second suspect, who fled. Port Edward police have opened an inquest docket.
