Police crack down on illegal foreigners

Eight people have been detained for failing to produce legal documentation.

A SPECIAL operation in the Port Shepstone CBD resulted in police rounding up 12 suspected illegal immigrants for questioning last Friday.

Members of SAPS Tactical Response Team and Port Shepstone Crime Prevention Unit, together with officials from Home Affairs’ immigration units from Durban and Port Shepstone, raided a building in Reynolds Street  at around midday. The operation officer was Warrant Officer Shireen Michael.

Police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum said that four people were later released, while eight have been detained for failing to produce legal documentation.

“If they don’t have the legal documentation required they will be deported to their country of origin,” he said.

More than 30 foreigners were detained after failing to produce legal documents in Durban’s CBD last Thursday evening.
