Ebola quarantine for former South Coast beauty queen

The reporter and her team have shown no signs of the deadly disease.

A FORMER Hibiscus Queen runner-up has been in voluntary quarantine in Johannesburg after visiting West Africa.

The woman in question is CBS reporter Lara Logan, formerly of Durban.

She had been in West Africa with a four-member crew to report on the Ebola crisis.

The good news is that neither she nor any of the team have shown any symptoms of the deadly disease.

According to reports in the media, Ms Logan and the crew were granted permission by the South African government to put the story together while working from a hotel room in Johannesburg.

The final report aired on 60 Minutes, and focused on their experiences visiting an American run hospital treating Ebola patients in Liberia.

At the end of the report, CBS made mention of the fact that the team was in quarantine, and directed viewers to a 60 Minutes Overtime web interview with Ms Logan.

Ms Logan became teary during the interview, particularly when mention was made of a five-year-old boy named William, whose father tenderly cared for him as he died.

She has a son who is the same age. “It was so heartbreaking. It’s really been hard on us all,” she said.

She explained that the crew took all kinds of precautions while in Liberia, including regularly hosing themselves down with chlorine solution, frequent monitoring of their temperatures every day, and making sure not to touch anyone.
