Past chairman Pieter ups the level of tennis at Uvongo
Players are requested to wear something red to the Valentine's Day round robin.
UVONGO Tennis Club’s committee wishes all members, visitors and locals a prosperous, healthy and safe 2015. Although the weather fluctuated between exceptionally high, humid conditions and rainy days, club facilities were utilised by a great number of players. Courts were regularly hired and the club welcomed many regular and new visitors to the courts.
One such visitor was past UTC chairman, Pieter de Kock, who is on holiday with friends from Pretoria. A very high standard of tennis was played.
Unfortunately several players are battling with poor health or recuperating from surgery. Val Kriel’s daughter, Sally Wesson, as well as Shirley Pienaar continue to undergo regular medical treatments – with good and bad days. Val Bouwer has had a pacemaker fitted, while Anthea Mensing had shoulder replacement surgery last Monday.
Dee Mitchell, Lorna Taylor, Sandra McClelland and Maggie Cockroft are all recovering from physical injuries and are wished better health for the future. For members who are able, a return to the courts or even a visit will be welcome, as they have been missed.
The club bids a sad goodbye to Annamarie Wege, who has been a member for many years and is relocating to Pretoria to be closer to her family. On a happier note, Willem Erasmus is in Pretoria registering daughter Therita at Tukkies after her great matric results enabled her to continue studying.
January birthday wishes go to Shelagh Schwegman, Val Kriel, Linda Visser, Sandra McClelland, Bert Albracht, Herby Kiwus, Howard Osborne and Neil Perry.
All members are requested to consult notice boards for duties. Saturday 17th – Shelagh Schwegman; Monday 19th – Herby Kiwus; and Wednesday 21st – Pam Williams.
A Valentine’s Day round robin is being planned for February 14 with a ‘bring and share’ braai afterwards. Players are requested to wear something red. Further details will be posted on the notice board.
