‘Vehicles without number plates are cause for comment’
Over the festive season numerous cars were seen on the coast without registration plates.

DEAR Editor,-
I refer to the story in last week’s Herald, and the arrest of an individual who was seen driving a stolen vehicle without registration plates.
But what’s new? During the recent festive season numerous cars were seen on the coast without registration plates, front and back.
As recently as last week I found myself at the ‘Tweni traffic lights in a queue of five vehicles, two of which had no rear number plates. Two out of five!
Last weekend while on a short trip into town I saw a further three vehicles without rear number plates and I’m not even looking for them. One, a large black Mazda with dark glass windows was ahead of me and at the Rethman Drive intersection, the car turned left and I was able to see it had no front registration plate either.
I have to suppose that most of these ‘registration less’ vehicles are visitors’ vehicles. Do they avoid speed trap cameras en route to the coast or is it something to do with ‘e-tolling’ upcountry?
We see the odd VW Golf marked ‘traffic police’ roaming around, but what do the occupants do?
However and for a small fee, authority and some equipment, I could sort out this problem in next to no time!
