‘Bus service is not a service’

These buses go where they like, when they like and stop to pick up and drop passengers wherever.

DEAR Editor,-

Yes, Ugu Transport Services it not part of Ugu Municipality, but it is a bus service and all bus services, unless hired as a private bus, must have a declared bus route with designated stops and must run on a fixed time schedule. This is clearly stated in the Roads and Traffic Act.

Ugu Transport Services runs their company like an over-sized taxi, going where they like, when they like and they stop to pick up and drop passengers wherever. And the Traffic Department sits back and does nothing.

Just like nothing gets done about the mess-up of traffic lights on Marine Drive again over the past holidays – like it has been for the last 12 years that I have been on the South Coast. I think it is left like that so that traffic officers can get paid overtime.
