RA Engar learns to fight fire
Pupils were in awe of the fire engines, blaring sirens and firefighters decked out in special suits.
HIBISCUS Coast Fire, Rescue and Disaster Department turned out in full force at RA Engar Primary last Friday for a demonstration on all aspects of fire safety for pupils and teachers. Pupils were in awe of the shining red engines, blaring sirens and firefighters, decked out in special suits that made them look like aliens from outer space.
Some lucky pupils got the opportunity to use the jaws of life, fire extinguishers and fire hoses. Some even donned special fireproof suits and to the envy of others, were invited to climb into the fire engines. The highlight was the huge fire in the middle of the ground that had everyone fearfully gasping for breath, until the huge flames were extinguished in a matter of seconds with special firefighting equipment.
The team also gave a lengthy and interesting talk on the dangers of fires, preventing fires, escaping from burning buildings and vehicles, as well as treatment of burn victims. Both pupils and teachers are now more knowledgeable about fires and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
