20 pupils get new uniforms

Pupils received brand new school shoes, jerseys and uniforms.

UNDERPRIVILEGED pupils from Bashishe Primary in Mvutshini received brand new uniforms from Ugu mayor, Councillor Ntombifikile Gumede, last Friday.

The visit is part of the mayor’s ongoing programme of assisting underprivileged pupils with school uniforms.

During this visit the mayor handed over uniforms, jerseys and school shoes to the identified pupils.

“The office of the mayor recently started the ‘Dress a Schoolchild’ campaign to assist needy children throughout the district,” said the mayor.

“This campaign is a direct response to the president’s plea and it is to be a continuous project that has a tangible impact in our district. The municipality also makes a humble request to other key stakeholders to also make a contribution towards this noble cause through the office of the mayor,” she said.

“Research has shown that the declining pass rate in our district is also perpetuated by a high percentage of drop-outs by children who are unable to take care of their daily schools needs. Ugu District Municipality is giving a helping hand to ensure underprivileged children have access to their education regardless of their status of life,” explained Cllr Gumede.

“The municipality will continue to ensure that every schoolchild receives the desired level education without having any hindrances, irrespective of their socio-economic family backgrounds,” she concluded.
