Oscar Borchers Road remains a problem
HCM will continue to engage with the department and the contractor concerned for better signage.
OSCAR Borchers Road, which recently claimed the life of a grade two pupil walking home from Marburg Primary, is in the spotlight again.
“Before another accident happens, the municipality needs to do something,” a concerned resident said this week.
“Law enforcement officers need to monitor the road,” he said.
Simon April, spokesman for Hibiscus Coast Municipality, said that the municipality was aware of the construction work which was being done under the jurisdiction of the provincial Transport Department.
“We have taken it upon ourselves to deploy officers to assist pupils and general members of the public to cross the road. It was only on Friday, August 14, that the relevant section had a special operation and was unable to deploy an officer there,” he said.
He explained that the unfortunate accident two weeks ago took place when the child crossed in a non-designated area, away from the block pedestrian crossing where officers were deployed.
Mr April said that were continuing to engage the department and the contractor concerned to erect better signage.
“We are also engaging the relevant section to consider a four-way stop at that intersection,” he said.
