Police captain to the rescue

Despite some people's opinion, there is a lot of good police work that takes place.

QUICK action by a police officer ended with three robbers being arrested in the Port Shepstone CBD recently.

A group of friends was sitting at a certain spot in Princess Elizabeth Drive in Port Shepstone when they were approached by three men who threatened them with knives.

“The robbers demanded cash and cellphones and then ran towards the Port Shepstone CBD,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

One man gave chase and managed to stop one of the robbers and tried to pin him to the ground.

Captain Petros Mpinge, station commander at Gamalakhe SAPS, saw the commotion and came to the man’s aid.

The thief was arrested and placed in a police vehicle.

The station commander then went in search of the two other robbers.

It wasn’t long before they were arrested and subsequently taken to Port Shepstone SAPS where they were detained and charged.

The men were due to appear in court soon. The stolen items were recovered and returned.
