No water in Gamalakhe

Residents are urged to use water sparingly.

UGU District Municipality has assured residents that the water situation in Gamalakhe is under control.

According to a media statement issued on Tuesday this week, the water supply in the area will be cut off between 7pm and 4am for the next eight days to allow reserves to build up to an adequate level.

This was necessitated by an electromechanical fault at the pump station supplying Gamalakhe. Normal supply is projected to resume thereafter.

“The municipality has made provision for static water tanks to be stationed in strategic areas around Gamalakhe, in consultation with local ward councillors,” said mayoralty and communications senior manager, France Zama. “Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this period and to keep in mind that the district is suffering severe drought.

“The municipality apologises to the community for any inconvenience caused during this period,” said Mr Zama. Customers are urged to forward all queries relating to water and sanitation, leaks and burst pipes as well as illegal connections to 0800 0928371/ 039 6885830/36.
