Crash claims a life
A man was killed when his bakkie overturned in Izingolweni.
A MAN has died and several others were injured in accidents on the South Coast over the weekend.
On Saturday a man travelling in a bakkie was killed when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle on the N2.
“The man died at the scene,” said Robert Mckenzie, spokesman for KZN EMS.
Police are investigating.
Ina separate incident, five people were injured when two vehicles collided on the R61 in Port Edward last Sunday afternoon.
“All emergency services responded and found that two light motor vehicles had collided head-on at the traffic lights,” said spokesman for Kwazulu Private Ambulance, Belinda Catchpole.
“Three people were seriously injured and another two had moderate injuries. With teamwork between all the services, the injured were stabilised and transported to various hospitals,” she said.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Also on Sunday, two people were injured when a bakkie overturned on a district road in Izingolweni. They were treated at the scene and transported to hospital.
On Saturday afternoon, Netcare 911 paramedics received a call to attend to a bakkie that had rolled on the N2 opposite Shell Ultra City in Umgababa.
Reports indicate that the vehicle was travelling towards Amanzimtoti when the driver swerved. The bakkie then hurtled across the centre median. The nose of the vehicle dug into a ditch, flipping over and causing it to roll several times.
Netcare 911 paramedics found the crumpled remains of the vehicle had come to rest on the southbound side of the centre median with the roof crushed.
Two patients were found on the verge, one with serious injuries while the other man escaped with minor injuries.
Paramedics treated the injured at the scene before transporting them to a hospital in Amanzimtoti.
