Ugu disaster centre is on track
The centre is being constructed in partnership with the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
FIRST phase of the Ugu District Municipality’s disaster management centre has been officially opened.
The centre is being constructed in partnership with the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and is located on the R102, Marburg Extension 2.
This multi-million rand project goes back to the first sod turning ceremony in November 2013.At a cost of R15.9 million, phase one comprises a block of offices and the external works, the second phase will add council chambers and phase three a fire and rescue unit.
“The centre’s expansion creates greater opportunities to fulfil the municipality’s vision of having a fully-fledged disaster management centre to fully service the local municipalities and have a bigger impact in the management of disasters in the district,” said Ugu spokesman France Zama.
