‘Dream’ water park developer murdered

The couple was found lying face down in a pool of blood.

KELSO’S dream water park developer Peter Meyer and his wife, Joan, were beaten and stabbed to death in their home in Krugersdorp on Friday night,

The motive is a mystery as nothing significant was stolen and there were no signs of forced entry.

Rand Amazon Valley Park was to be the ‘largest water park in South Africa’. Work was supposed to start next month and to be completed in time for next year’s festive season.

With the news of the horrific murders still very raw, the development now – understandably – hangs in the balance.

Police rushed to the Meyers’ home in Rudd Street, Noordheuwel, after the CPF reported an armed robbery was in progress. They were met at the gate by other family members who feared the robbers were still inside the house, reported the Krugersdorp News.

After a yard search, they moved inside where they found the Meyers lying face down in a pool of blood in the living room area. EPR’s report stated that they had been beaten and each had visible wounds, to the head and back.

Social media was buzzing with contradictory speculation about the motive for the murders. Police have appealed for members of the community to come forward with information.

The Meyers had already built up a network of friends on the coast who were all shocked by the news.

“We are hoping that their three children will continue with the water park as his legacy,” said local business woman Debbie Anderson.

“Our community had already embraced them as our own. So much planning had been done and money spent in the planning. This murder is a travesty and we are all shocked and saddened. Knowing Peter, he would have fought to the death to protect Joan.”

When the project was announced earlier this year, Mr Meyer – a well-known businessman in Gauteng – said he had fallen in love with the Umdoni coast after caravanning here for many years and the water park was his ‘dream’.

It was to include 23 unique slides and wave riders, 80 caravan sites, restaurants, take-away franchises, children’s play park, an animal farm and canopy tour.

Many felt that this project was big enough to ‘transform the Umdoni coast’.
