Toy gun used to rob elderly woman
The fake weapon had been stolen from another flat.
A MAN who held an elderly woman at gunpoint using a toy weapon has been arrested.
The suspect (26) allegedly robbed a 60-year-old woman at her Arbuthnot Street, Scottburgh home last Thursday.
The woman was returning to her flat about 5pm when she was confronted by a man who pointed a gun, which later turned out to be a toy, at her.
“He demanded cash and then when she screamed, he ran down the stairs,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Zandra Wiid.
Fortunately, two off duty detectives were nearby.
Detective Constable Dillon Khamisa and Detective Constable Cliffy Pillay heard the woman’s screams and saw the man fleeing from the flats.
“He was arrested and the woman’s personal items were recovered. The toy gun, which he had stolen from another flat, was handed in as an exhibit.
