Just in: Robbers threaten sleeping child

A father was stabbed twice trying to protect his child.

THREE men armed with knives attacked and robbed a family in Chestnut Drive, Umbango this morning.

The men grabbed a sleeping child in their desperate hunt for valuables and threatened to harm the child if their demands were not met.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the intruders gained entry to the property by breaking through a door at about 2.15am. “The family was woken by three men who threatened them with a knife,” she said.

The child’s father was stabbed in the neck and hand when he tried to intervene.  The robbers fled with a one plate stove, a cellphone and an amplifier.

In a separate case, a 43-year-old woman from Dingimbiza location near Hibberdene was awoken by a noise in the early hours of last Wednesday.

“She heard a door in the passage opening and people whispering. “hree men wearing balaclavas then held her at gun point. They demanded cash before fleeing,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
