Cops catch criminals lurking in Sheppie CBD
The men are linked to a case where a woman was robbed of her wallet and cell phones.
SWIFT action by Port Shepstone police this morning led to the arrest of two suspects who are believed to be involved in a robbery which took place in the Port Shepstone CBD this week.
Off duty Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling from Port Shepstone SAPS requested back up when he noticed the suspicious looking men driving a green Toyota Tazz.
Constables Sibusiso Cele, Sandile Mpisane and Selby Cele from the 10111 call centre stopped the the vehicle before they were joined by members of the Public Order Policing (POP).
“When the police approached, one of the men immediately threw a bank card on the ground,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
She added that the two men were arrested, and it was later established that the bank card, along with a wallet and cell phones, had been stolen from a woman in town yesterday (Wednesday).
The men will be charged with possession of stolen property and the vehicle will be impounded pending further investigation. The men will appear in court on Tuesday next week.
Lt-Col Wiid urged members of the community to contact the police with information regarding criminals who rob people of their hard earned money.
“Be always alert to your surroundings and to people who could be potential robbers, especially during rush hour,” she said.
