A NOTORIOUS paedophile has been arrested in Betania near Izotsha. The 55-year-old man appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrates’ Court last Friday on charges of rape, sexual assault and displaying pornographic material to minor children. The case was postponed for seven days for a bail application and he remains in custody.
“It is alleged that the man, who was living close to his eight victims, all aged between four and 10 years old, at Msikaba ward in Betania, would lure them to his house and play games with them,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. “He used a sex toy and also touched and penetrated them,” she said.
The suspect was arrested on March 31, by Lieutenant Simphiwe Shusha from Port Shepstone detectives. Captain Jurie Meyer and Warrant Officer Fritz Edwards from Port Shepstone SAPS assisted him with the arrest. Constable Nurse Magubane from Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) unit will be investigating the case.
