Election countdown begins

All political parties say they are ready for elections.

WITH just two weeks to go, all parties on the South Coast say they are ready for the local government elections.

Ugu’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says that no serious incidents of election-related violence have been reported to it, and that their workers are ready for the day.

“All political parties are still in line with the political code of conduct. We are also working well with SAPS to monitor the election processes,” said IEC Ugu spokesman, Malusi Yeni.

Political parties such as the DA, EFF, ANC and IFP were seen campaigning on various streets and communities along the South Coast.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane visited Mkholombe ; ANC National Chairman and Parliamentary Speaker Baleka Mbete visited Gamalakhe; IFP president, Mntwana Mangosuthu Buthelezi visited Harding, while EFF’s Marshall Dlamini visited Marburg.

The NFP are not taking part in the 2016 elections after they failed to meet IEC requirements.

The Department of Home Affairs will also be opening its doors this coming weekend, Saturday 16 and Sunday, July 17, as part of the identity document collection project, prior to elections.

Home Affairs will also open its doors on August 3 for collections nationwide.
