Port Shepstone Regional Hospital recently recognised eight dedicated nursing staff from the Female Medical Ward for their commitment to excellence and quality patient care during the first quarter of 2026.

They were selected through a staff recognition initiative implemented by the Female Medical Ward management, in consultation with staff.

Hospital PRO Phumza Morai said the initiative aims to acknowledge employees who consistently demonstrate professionalism, commitment and exemplary conduct in healthcare services.

“The selection criteria included adherence to the hospital’s uniform policy; respect for patients, members of the public and multidisciplinary teams; time management; adherence to the Batho Pele Principles; responsibility and accountability; patient advocacy; discipline and professional conduct.”

Based on these criteria, professional nurse Lungile Sithole, enrolled nursing assistant Hlengiwe Gumede, enrolled nurse Mary Majola, professional nurse Nqobile Mtshali, professional nurse Simphiwe Kati, enrolled nurse assistant Nozipho Sibisi, student nurse Elona Mhlamvu and enrolled nurse Thulile Nikwe were recognised for their performance during their respective months.

Morai added that the hospital commends these employees for demonstrating the values and behaviours expected of healthcare professionals and for contributing positively to the patient experience.

Their recognition highlights the important role of nursing staff in ensuring that patients receive care that is respectful, compassionate, professional and aligned with the principles of Batho Pele.
